As a product of the seventies, I've had a chance to do a lot of stupid, dangerous things. When I say a lot, I mean a LOT.  I've come to recognize that the 3 most dangerous words in the English language are as follows:

Hold my beer.

For Independence Day tomorrow, we'll remember the words of the immortal Sergeant Esterhaus:

Boogie Nights

Stumbled on the movie Boogie Nights while surfing tonight. This movie is cool. About 70s porn star Dirk Diggler (Mark Wahlberg), who works for porn director Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds). If nothing else, it's worth checking out just for the disco soundtrack. Brilliantly put together.

Weather Alert

In the Heartland, light rain, temp 33 degrees. I'm REALLY glad I don't have anywhere to go. Sleep in, watch The Sopranos tomorrow morning on A&E, play some guitar, watch some more TV, then watch the Super Bowl. The wife made a big batch of pulled pork, and I have plenty of beer and soda.

Steven Tyler on Idol

Watching Idol the other day, my 12 year-old daughter did not know Steven Tyler or Aerosmith. I played her a few songs - Dream On, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way - nothing. I'm going to post some Aerosmith on Tuesday's "Music Video Tuesday" on Facebook. At least she'll understand things a little more.

On this day, November 10, 1969, Sesame Street was broadcast for the first time. Most of us Products of the Seventies were not young enough to really be Sesame Street kids, but we all recognize the influence on future generations.

Sesame Street premiered on November 10, 1969. The very first scene was a clay-animated sequence showing two creates forming the words "Sesame Street", followed by the opening theme music. The first regular performer to appear on screen is Gordon (Matt Robinson) who introduces one of his students to his wife, Susan, as well as Bob and Mr. Hooper. Big Bird also appears, though the first puppet-style Muppets to appear on screen were Ernie and Bert.

During this first season, Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch were the only Muppets to regularly appear in Street scenes, while Ernie and Bert and others debuted in separate segments. Big Bird had a much more naïve voice and a smaller head with fewer feathers, and Oscar was a "toxic" orange...

My Name Is Earl

I caught this show for the first time tonight. What a great show! He made a list of the 200 + things he's done wrong in his life, and he's out to correct every one of them. He believes in karma, and thinks he has to make amends for everything.

It made me think about all the things I did wrong.

Ome time, I talked the majority of the low brass section of the high school pep-band into chipping in for several cases of beer before a basketball game road trip. So we're slamming beers just before getting on the bus. People are filling their instrument cases and pockets with cans of beer. Just as I was getting on the bus, they said it was full, and asked for volunteers to drive. I ended up riding with a couple of senior tuba players, and we drank heavily on the way. By the time we got there, I was trashed. So was the entire trombone section. The problem was, they got caught. Every person I talked into this scheme was kicked out of school for a few days, and kicked out of band for the remainder of the year. Except me. I didn't ride the bus, there was no physical evidence I participated, and all they knew was that I was stumbling around the bleachers.

Well, this could go on forever. I do know I'm not going to miss this show, it's GREAT stuff!
